LOCAL ROOTS SINCE 1959
The HOB Family Story · Jefferson City, MOThe house behind the bargains.
A Jefferson City family business, a new chapter, and the same belief that a great deal should be for everyone.
The original House of Bargains
Albert Edward “Frenchie” Bogg opened the original 6,000-square-foot House of Bargains in 1959. He believed everyone should be able to receive discount pricing, and his vision grew into a well-established family business.
His son Carey took over in the 1970s and operated the store with his wife Jean. The business brought together hardware, automotive goods, housewares, sporting goods, shoes, jewelry, toys, and rentals.
A family tradition, carried forward
After Carey passed away in 2017, the business continued with Jean and two of their children, DeAnne and Chris. In 2021, Jean decided to close House of Bargains.
DeAnne chose to carry on the family legacy. She purchased the building and opened Jefferson City’s first overstock bin store. The name HOB honors her grandfather, her father, and the family business that started it all.
